The Island of Dr.Moreau
The book starts out with Edward Prendick alone drifting at sea just waiting to die. He is picked up by a passing ship nearly dead. As he is recovering he notices that there are many animals on board and they are headed to an little island. The captain of the boat is always drunk, and he and Prendick get in a fight. When they get to the island the captain will not take Prendick any further and the people going to the island don't want him there. So once again Edward is at drift in the ocean.

Wow!! How did Edward arrive at sea in the first place?! Why did he and the captin of the ship get into an arguement?! What made the arguement reach the point that the captin decided that the would kick Edward off the ship?! Why didn't the people of the island want him there?! If I were in Edwards position, I'd probably give up just like he did!
